About the U.S. Navy Method

The U.S. Navy body fat formula uses circumference measurements to estimate body fat percentage. While not as accurate as DEXA scans or hydrostatic weighing, it's a reliable, free method that only requires a tape measure.

Measuring Tips

  • Measure first thing in the morning for consistency
  • Pull the tape snug but don't compress the skin
  • Take each measurement 2-3 times and use the average
  • Stand relaxed with normal breathing when measuring
